CGMA wk 7 Illo 1 UPDATE

Description

UPDATE:: following a frankly WIN idea from Vehzley (:iconvenus-complex:) I've updated this thing, I'm now much happier with it, it seems to have the 'thing' it was missing.

oh, and 900px across looks positively tiny on my brand spankin' new 2560x1440 27inch monitor =D

-------------------------------------------------

So this week we had to take another one of week 5's thumbnails and take it to final illustration.

Why do I do this to myself?

All four of my week 5 thumbnails were basically shit. I was having a bad weekend and nothing I did worked out right, I submitted the thumbnails anyway, thinking that would be the end of it... haha, how wrong can you be?

Both this week and last week I've had to tear the thumbnails apart, pick the best bits (of which there were very few let me assure you) and then go again, re-painting the thumbnails, then taking the new ones to final illustration.

So what should have taken me maybe two hours tops, took me nearly EIGHT hours... BOTH times!! grrrr..... I hate those frickin thumnails...

Anyway...

in the end, I think this one worked out alright, it's not as dramatic as week 6's illustration, but it's got it's own moody little charm that I like.

speaking of week 6's illustration, we had to update that based on James Paick's comments. That one's coming up next.

Going for the ol' orange and blue movie contrast again, nice lighting on this one though.

That bit of rock feels very out of place, the bit that un-naturally joins the rocks on the right to the large rock formation on the left.

Nice rock texture, though I think the pic needs more snow. Theres something about it that, to me, feels very artificial... I'm not entirely sure what it is. It seems a bit cold, cold in both palette but also in a sort of cruel almost robotic way. Lacking in life (not in a boring way but in a way that makes you not like that enviroment)

BUT I would like to see you swap future space man for some seventeenth/eighteenth century ragged dudes huddled around a fire where the orange is at the moment and call the pic 'in exile' or something. It would bring a less cold feel to the image.
