My Apocalypse by TehBeardedOne My Apocalypse by TehBeardedOne
So we cross that line
Into the crypt
Total eclipse
Suffer unto my apocalypse!

Tyrants awaken my apocalypse!
Demon awaken my apocalypse!
Heaven awaken my apocalypse!
Suffer forever my apocalypse!

This is seriously the longest I've spent on a digital painting so far, about 6 hours across 2 days!!

I decided to go the traditional 'fire and brimstone' sort of apocalypse for this, but rather than do my usual 'silhouette, funky sky, dodgy colour' style, I decided to try a matte painting.

I think it's pretty successful, I learnt alot of things doing this, which is a major benefit, and I had alot of fun making things look like they're getting pulverised by some angry god =)

Rather than 'set' this after the apocalypse has been raging for a while, I decided to set it just as it starts, with hell raining down apon the earth.

Wish me luck! =D

p.s. I've made some wallpapers of this too, so if you want them, let me know and I'll upload 'em!

Theres something quite pretty about it. Although, i really cant say much about it, the full view is quite small, it'd be nice to have a bigger full view =)

Good luck with the compo though ^_^

ahhhahahaha. Very nice, do meteors all move like that? not that im an expert on forced entry into the earths atmosphere, but if i were to get some blu tack and blu tack an awesome space ship to the top right of my screen it looks like an insane missile barrage or the dropping of thousands foot troops into the city lol. Infact an alternate version of this with a truly awesome space ship would look neato i think. Maybe i just have too big an affinity for spaceships.

Nice city though, modeled on a real city?

haha lol, I have no idea =D

yeah the city's a photograph plate, I did all the lighting effects, sky replacement, fires, destruction and meteors over the top of the original =) I'm actually getting into this 'matte painting' lark lately... it's a really interesting process.

lol it was just that they're all at the same angle... lol.

Yeah matte painting is one of the classic cinema techniques, i dont think it'll leave art for a while, its pretty big here on DA too. Works nicely with CG... very nicely. Next you'll have to paint it on glass! =D

I see =) they looked kinda strange all coming from different angles though... maybe I'll have another look at it =)

lol I could print it on acetate... that's about as far as I'd get though haha

hmm well being the sky above i'd expect thered be 4 main angles, the one youve got atm, and its opposite, and then the same angles but rotated 90 degrees, so away from the viewer and toward the viewer... id expect the angles inbetween would be like, smaller debris and things. Of course this would all depend on the amount of meteors, their trajectory and the tilt of the earth at this time... but science would take ages.

hmmm acetate... well doing it on glass was just the way of doing it in the old school days of filming... like in wizard of oz, and indiana jones... i guess now with digital art you can transfer it straight into your project. But acetate is cool nonetheless.

lol science and art?? =D

the acetate was just a joke lol, I'm getting into the digital matte painting thing, all you have to keep in mind is colour depth, resolution and aspect ratio... that and a little bit of realism =D
