Random Character 1

Description

So every time I try and get more detail into my characters, they lose 'character.'... it's beginning to bug me... I keep being told to work on my characters to bring them up to the 'standard' of my environments, but I just can't seem to do it.

I think part of the problem is that I don't really like the overly polished sort of look appiled to my work... don't get me wrong, I'd be stunned and honoured if one of the 'big' colourists wanted to work with me, but they're masters of their craft, and I just don't have the time, or the inclination to get that good at the smooth, photo-real colours...

meh, I think I'm going to make a point of leaving digital colours to my environments, and doing my characters with markers, I seem to be better at that... what do you think?

Info:

ink linework, with markers over the top for rough toning, then photoshop for colours. time- 90 minutes or so.

I think you are being to hard on yourself. Most every character is generic or a character type. The thing that seperates characters is personality. That comes with developing him. Don't buy into the whole "original" argument buddy. There is no such thing.
