Studies 'n' Sketches 2912010

Description

So I've kinda gone back to basics over the last couple of weeks. I found a company in london that I really want to apply to for work, but I feel like my characters aren't quite up to scratch at the moment, so I've been doing some studies and sketches for a new character. I've done all the initial 'searching' that I wanna do for this guy, I feel like I've got a good idea of where I want to take the design, so from here I'll go into photoshop and put together a rough colour sketch of him, then hopefully do a full on final design of him.

I haven't named him yet, but he's an old warrior, stuck in his ways. He has an 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality, which has worked for him so far. I kinda want him to be a late 21st century guy, born around 2020/2030, growing up after a time where technological advancements have slowed, then keeping alot of that technology and clothing, while his compatriots all adopt new technology with open arms. He's mentally a little slower than others around him, but his fighting abilities are second to none, even at his age.

i'm gonna try and make him look battle-hardened, lived in, and maybe a little tired of it all. His clothes are gonna be all stitched and repaired, where he's reluctant to take up new things unless absolutely necessary. This of course means he will have some advanced things, like his main weapon would be something advanced, but his sidearm will be something more early 21st century, as he trusts it more than 'modern' weaponry.

Hope you like this stuff, it's not much, but it kinda shows my thought process. There's everything from the first sketches (the pen and marker ones near the top) to the last pencil sketches. The face with the tick is the nearest one to final.

These concept types of pages are my favourite pieces of art, they are always very fun to look at, and very raw -- just pure pencil to paper. So yeah. I like this a lot.
