The Light At The End by TehBeardedOne The Light At The End by TehBeardedOne
BIG UPDATE
After some feedback I worked on some of the elements, and then went a lot further than I intended to. I've added the wreckage of a city in the background to try and give more depth, both to the image and the story, hopefully that comes across right!

Submission for The Wacom - Bring your vision to life contest.

I didn't have a story for this before I started, I'd originally wanted to do a huge collage of stuff that I wanted out of life... but I thought that was too literal.

So here's to dreaming of something better, of something beyond the daily grind, of something more than we see.

here's to dreams.

For years he travelled the tortured shell of the world he once knew. Walking, for what seemed like forever, he searched for life, for a place not scorched by the nuclear war of his forefathers.

But he soon lost his focus, and out of sheer exhaustion, collapsed atop a hill. There he laid for days, dreaming of the world before the war. He dreamed of the things his parents taught him, of love, life, green fields and music. He dreamed of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, of coming to a place not ravaged by war.

Its a very epic pic... i'd like to see it with the character doing something, like reaching into the sky or something, i think that'd bring a little more to the picture.

Also whats that grainy texture overlay youve got going on, kinda makes it look like were looking through a dirty window at this guy.

Thanks man, I'm working on it a little bit today, to make a few improvements and tweaks, so maybe I'll do something with the guy.

As for the grainy texture, that was the intention, to make it look dirty and filthy, tattered and broken... I guess it worked =D

oooo do like, maybe the light breaking the clouds is a little low... it kinda looks like the source of the light is literally behind that very cloud... which it well could be a sunrise/sunset, but the clour coming through the cloud looks like sunlight at midday lol.

Still i do like it alot! Its a shame it doesnt fit on my monitor at work... but itll fit on my HD 23" at home =D.

Did you pick up COD:MW2?

thanks man, appreciate the crit, the colour was the one thing I forgot to do... the actual light source is supposed to be a little un realistic, kinda over dramatic =D

nah I ain't got any money, it looks good tho =)

ah i see.

Yeah MW2... is pretty intense, but intense in a good story telling way. Enroaching on the Epic towards the end. =D

as expected multiplayer is muchos fun.

hmmm, you know...i think i'll become ur personal critic XDD

So firstly...i think the clouds are a little bit too blurry the most real part is the right top corner, it looks so damn real )))

Secondly...the edge of the hill shouldn't be SO sharp... just a 5-10% blur will be fine...orrrr if the clouds were darker at the bottom it wouldn't be so spotable

Now about the whole pic))) I DAMN LIKE IT!!! the ray of light looks great, colours are well played, dreamy thoughts are like...converting to me)))

I feel so guilty after all this^^ I'm so sorry, even tho i know that u welcome all critics))

lol okay then =)

I agree totally with the cloud blurryness, I'm actually gonna work on them tomorrow, (I've set the pic as my desktop wallpaper to force myself to look at it and notice flaws etc) so there's a couple of things I want to update.

I reckon the problem with the hill is that I used the lasso tool to do the outline, and didn't smooth it out enough once I'd painted it through, so I'll sort that out too =)

thanks alot!

But I think you should have zoomed in a little more on the person.

Thanks!

I was going to at first, but I wanted a really wide, zoomed out, open feel to it, and I couldn't get the balance right when zoomed in. Something to work on for the future though, thankyou!

No! I totally disagree with Explodeguy here.
That sort of distance is AWESOME. It's a great distance away, and bringing it forward or further would only hinder the art.

Amazing! I have no problems! ;3
Keep up the AMAZING work!
